How do I add my property and its units?

Short answer
Add the property first, with a name, an address and a type, then add its units. Your plan covers 3 properties, and a block of twelve flats is one property with twelve units, not twelve properties.

The longer version
One property, many units
This is the decision people get wrong on day one and pay for later. A block of twelve flats is one property with twelve units. An estate with four separate blocks is usually a property per block, because each one has its own gate, its own guard and its own service charge.
The test: if it has its own gate and its own bills, it is its own property. If it shares both, it is a unit.
Add the units
- 1Add them one at a time, or upload a file if you have a lot of them.
- 2Name each one the way the people who live there name it.Flat 3 must be called Flat 3. Not Unit 003, not the third one. A tenant who cannot recognise their own flat in a list will call you about it, and so will the guard.
- 3Set the rent on the unit, so a bill later is a confirmation rather than a fresh decision.
- 4Then invite the tenant, once the unit exists to attach them to.
When you upload a file of units, read what comes back before moving on. It tells you which rows landed and which did not, and a row that silently failed on day one becomes a flat nobody can find on day thirty.
- How many units can one property have?
- A hundred, which covers almost every block and estate in Lagos. If you are past that, it is genuinely two properties.
- I run more than 3 properties. Then what?
- You can add more than the three your plan includes. What the extra ones cost is on the plan screen, and it is the screen rather than this page because that is where the current figure lives.
- Can I move a tenant between units?
- Yes. Remove them from the old unit and attach them to the new one. Their history stays with each flat, which is what you want when a previous tenant disputes something.
