How do I send my plumber a code?

2 min readUpdated 25 Aug 2026For renters, owners, managers and estate staff

Short answer

Create a code, say it is for a repair, choose about an hour, and share it to WhatsApp. Your plumber reads the six characters out at the gate and walks in, and you never pick up the phone to the guard.

The longer version

  1. 1Tap the key button.
  2. 2Say what it is for: a repair, in the plumber case.
  3. 3Choose how long it should last.Match it to the visit, not to your day. An hour for a repair. Do not issue a month because you are unsure what time he will show up.
  4. 4Add a note, so you recognise it later. Two hundred characters. "Plumber, kitchen tap" is enough, and in three weeks it is the difference between a record and a list of codes.
  5. 5Share it. WhatsApp, text, or read it down the phone.

The QR square and the six characters are the same code. Send whichever suits the person. A trade in the rain with a cracked screen would rather read six characters than open an image.

Treat a long code like a key, because that is what it is. A month-long code sent into a group chat is a month of anybody in that chat walking through your gate.
